    Change the following sentences into indirect speech:

    1.) I said to him, “Will you share your tiffin with me?”

    2.) Anjan’s mother said, “Your father has left for Mumbai.”

    Answer: Anjan’s mother said that his father had left for Mumbai.

    3.) The girls triumphantly said, “Hurrah! We have won the match.”

    Answer: The girls exclaimed with happiness that they had won the match.

    4.) He says, “Let you be successful in life.”

    Answer: He says that I might be successful in life.

    5.) The captain informed, “The tournament was postponed last month.”

    Answer: The captain informed us that the tournament had been postponed last month.

    Use the following flow-chart to write a paragraph within 100 words on how to make paper:

    Hints: cutting down of bamboos – making pulp – adding chemicals – rolling into sheets – adding colour – drying – ready for use

    Answer: Paper is part of our everyday lives. Here are the steps to make paper. Firstly, some bamboo is cut down. Then the pulp is made with bamboo. After that some chemicals are added to it. Then, the pulp in which the chemical is added, is rolled into sheets. After this, the sheets are rolled and colors are added to them. Then the sheets are dried. Finally the paper is ready for use.

    Exercise 8

    Write a biography of Annie Besant within 100 words based on the hints given below:

    Hints: born on 1st of October 1847 in London-famous British writer-well known Socialist, activist for the rights of women-participated in Indian politics-joined the Indian National Congress-became the first woman President of the Indian National Congress in 1917-passed away on 20th of September 1933 in Madras, India.

    Answer: Annie Besant was a famous British writer. She was born on 1st October 1847 in London. She was a well-known socialist, activist for the rights of women. She actively participated in Indian politics. She joined the Indian National Congress to show her love for the country. She became the first woman President of the Indian National Congress in 1917. She was a patriot at heart who fought against injustice. She passed away on 20th September 1933 in Madras, India.
