“A Feat On Feet” is a lesson from the “Butterfly” textbook of Class 5 approved by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education. Here all the activities are done by English teachers.
A Feat On Feet -ACTIVITY – 1
Let’s find out:
What happened on May 29, 1953 ? Follow the given sequence and describe:
- 4a.m = Edmund Hillary and Norgay awake and got ready for their climb.
- 6.30a.m = They left their camp for their climb.
- 11.30a.m = They reached the summit of Mt. Everest.
- 11.45a.m = Hillary and Norgay made their way back down the mountain.

A Feat On Feet – ACTIVITY – 8
Write five sentences describing the route map of Tenzing and Hillary. One is done for you:
1) Hillary and Tenzing started their final climb at 6.30 a.m.
2) They came upon one particularly difficult rock face, that is now called “Hillary’s step”.
3) They reached the summit of Mt. Everest at 11:30 a.m.
4) They enjoyed only 15 minutes at the top of the world because of their low oxygen supply.
5) When their 15 minutes were up, they made their way back down the mountain.
